Stepping back in time to Ancient Greece on the beautiful island Aegina

We had the great pleasure of touring the Temple of Aphaia, on Aegina, dating back to around 500 BC. However, worshipping on this site dates back to 1300 BC, when it was believed to be associated with a female fertility deity from archeological findings. There were originally 3 temples on the same site built in different periods, the oldest dating far back to prehistoric times. Some believe that the special location, with Athens in the distance, itself is of course sacred and older than any buildings and was probably originally used for healing. Of the first 2 temples, only traces and foundations have survived the times. This temple was built just before the Acropolis and forms, with the temple of Apollo, a perfect triangle.
